WELCOME TO THE SAN FRANCISCO ASSOCIATION OF PERFORMING ARTISTS
We are a COMMUNITY of local artists. We are musicians and composers, singers and dancers, actors and comedians, magicians and make-up artists, designers of costume and stage. We are theatre arts and sciences majors, young artists and seasoned practitioners. We are the artists-in-residence who live, work, study and play in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
LOCALLY
We appear in the clubs and music halls, at music festivals and in our neighborhood street fairs. We play the concert halls, symphony halls and dance halls, sing in churches, and perform at benefits in hospitals and for local charity events in our communities.
GLOBALLY
We are a proud member of the San Francisco Travel Association www.sftravel.com with an audience of 25 million visitors to San Francisco every year and over 1,500 local business partners and professional organizations.
The San Francisco Association of Performing Artists serves as host and hospitality, emcee and entertainment guide to the travel, meetings and conventions industries. Our unique and personal knowledge and collective perspective of the City’s history and local culture in art, music, entertainment and literature has produced “Only in San Francisco” original local signature programs, shows and events.

FINOCCHIO’S FOLLIES
Finocchio’s was a Prohibition era speakeasy called the 201 Club in 1929 at 406 Stockton Street. When Prohibition was repealed in 1933 the club started to offer female impersonation acts. After police raids in 1936 the club moved to 506 Broadway and was a favorite of straight and gay tourists until closing in 1999.
SARA VAUGHAN
Jimbo’s Bop City was one of the best-known jazz venues in San Francisco. Bop City opened in March 1949 with a show by the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra and Sarah Vaughan.
COUNTRY JOE McCOUNTRY AND THE FISH
638 Ashbury Street In an apartment called the fish tank, the band Country Joe McDonald and the Fish wrote “The Fish Cheer – I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag”, also known as the Vietnam Song.
